Programme Highlights

Our Curriculum

The Mathematics curriculum emphasizes on conceptual understanding, skill proficiencies and thinking skills in the teaching and learning of mathematics. Students are given opportunities to discover, reason and communicate their understanding of the mathematics concepts and problem solving techniques.  Engaging in group activities, exploratory work and discussions that allow them to make connections, pupils will understand the Mathematical concepts better and apply their learning to real life situation.

Problem Solving Strategies

Lower Primary : Pupils are taught the KFC Strategy to help them solve problem sums. The steps are

Ø  K- stands for “What information do I know?”

Ø  F- stands for “What am I trying to find out?”

Ø  C- stands for “Carry out the plan!”

Upper Primary : Problem Solving Package (PSP) is created by the Mathematics Department for P3 to 6 pupils. This package supplements ‘MyPals Are Here!’  The PSP focuses on developing pupils’ problem solving skills and thinking processes. POLYA strategy is used in the Upper Primary Levels to help pupils solve problem sums in a systematic way. The steps are

Ø  Understand the problem

Ø  Devise a plan

Ø  Carry out the plan

       Ø  Check the answer


Math Performance Assessment (Primary 1 to 6)
The Math Performance Assessment (MPA) is an assessment to monitor their progress and understanding. From these Formative Assessments (hands-on or written), teachers are able to clarify pupils’ misconceptions and close the learning gaps.

Learning Support for Mathematics : LSM (Primary 1
and
2)
This programme supports the Lower Primary pupils who have some difficulty in basic numeracy skills. Pupils at P1 are identified through the School Readiness Test. Smaller sized classes are conducted to help these pupils leverage on their learning through hands-on experiences using varied activities.

Learning Trail (Primary 2 & 3)
Lessons out of school come alive for pupils to sharpen their thinking skills and help them to relate the concepts learnt in school. The trail created opportunities for team building and for collaborative learning facilitated by information technology.

Information Communications Technology : ICT in the Classroom
The computer, hand-held calculator and other mobile devices are used in the classrooms to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics. ICT is carried out in the class through the use of Computers in the Lab and Mobile Carts and iPads in the classroom. Pupils use various multimedia devices to work on their tasks to work on in order to understand the Mathematical concepts better.
